No loan paperwork needed to start

Any fee is shown in writing before you decide

Most of the stories we hear go the same way.

A homeowner pulls a utility bill from the mailbox in front of a house with solar panels

"Your power bill will basically disappear."

Then the power bills kept coming. Now there's a solar payment on top of them.

      An empty, closed storefront office

      Then the company stopped answering.

The installer closed, went bankrupt, or just went quiet. The warranty went with them. The loan didn't.

And then the payment went up.

Many solar loans assume you'll put a tax credit toward the balance by a set month. If that doesn't happen, the payment can be recalculated and jump.

Three problems hide in solar paperwork. Most homeowners we hear from have more than one.

      Residential Solar Loan Agreement

      Borrower copy

4.2 Amount Financed. The Amount Financed includes a program fee paid by the Installer to the Lender, which is not shown as a separate charge to Borrower.

4.5 Payment Adjustment. If Borrower does not prepay the Expected Tax Credit Amount by the 18th payment, the monthly payment will be recalculated and will increase.

6.1 System Performance. Estimated production figures are provided by the Installer for illustration only and are not a guarantee of savings or output.

7.3 Warranties. All workmanship and production warranties are provided solely by the Installer and not by Lender. Borrower's obligation to pay continues regardless of Installer's performance or status.

      1. 1

The installer went out of business

They shut down, filed for bankruptcy, or stopped answering. The loan they signed you into didn't go with them.

        • Calls go unanswered
        • No one honors the warranty
        • Repairs have stalled
      2. 2

You were sold something that didn't happen

Bills that were supposed to vanish, "free" solar that wasn't, or a system making far less power than the pitch.

        • Still paying a full power bill
        • Low production
        • Rushed signing on a tablet
      3. 3

The loan itself is the problem

Hidden dealer fees in the balance, payments that jump, or a lump sum nobody explained. Most people never spot this one.

        • Balance above the system's value
        • Payment went up

      How the free review works

      1. Tell us what happened

Answer a few questions or call us. It takes about two minutes.

      2. We read your paperwork

We compare your contract and loan to what you were told at the door.

      3. You get a straight answer

If it's not worth pursuing, we'll say so. If it is, you get the options, fee and terms in writing.

      4. Help where it fits

Where legal work is called for, we retain an independent law firm on your behalf and keep you updated.

      Straight talk, before you call

      What we do

      • Read your contract against what you were promised
      • Tell you plainly if your situation isn't worth pursuing
      • Put any fee and terms in writing before you decide

      What we never do

      • Promise that your contract will be canceled
      • Give legal advice. We're not a law firm.
      • Tell you to stop paying your loan

      Questions people ask first

Yes. Looking at your situation costs nothing and you're under no obligation. If you decide to move forward, the fee and terms are given to you in writing first.

No. Solar Cancellation Group is a consumer advocacy and contract review company. Where legal work is called for, we retain an independent law firm on your behalf.

No one can honestly promise that, and we won't. Every situation is different and no outcome is guaranteed.

It's often a long process. We can't give you a fixed timeline, and you should be careful with anyone who does. We keep you updated the whole way.

That's one of the most common situations we see. The loan usually stays even when the installer is gone, so it's worth a free look.

We never tell anyone to stop paying. Missed payments can hurt your credit. Don't change anything with your lender until you've had your review.

Just your answers to a few questions. You don't need any loan documents for the first call.
